From the plastic Fisher Price record player Santa gave me as a child to the last song I downloaded on iTunes, music has been playing in the background, a sort of This is Your Life soundtrack. Of course when your Daddy wakes you up before sunrise to Waylon Jennings, music is bound to play a significant role.
As I think back on the concerts I’ve attended, I laugh at the wide variety of music and entertainers on my list. Bad Company, The Jacksons, Britney Spears, Squeeze, Elton John, David Allen Coe, Santana, The Doobie Brothers, One Direction.Oh and Keith Urban. My best friend Becky would NEVER forgive me if I didn’t mention Keith Urban…

I have a near-constant mindtrack (as I call it) running. Mine goes weird places, sometimes. In fact, it just so happens that I recently uploaded an ancient page I wrote from my OLD website, renewed it, and put it on my new one. And it’s about stuck songs. 🙂

I, too, remembered the little Fisher-Price Record Player – MY kids had one (okay, okay)…But so glad you didn’t ask us for a favorite song. Music and books are the undercurrents in my family, and it also speaks to me constantly, but the exact craving depends on my needs at the time. Too many notes, too little time…
I couldn’t pick a favorite either. Harder than picking a favorite book!
I had one of those Fisher Price record players when I was a kid too. I loved my record players as they eventually graduated to stereos. Loved my music and still do!! ♥

Being a musician I have a sountrack going through my head constantly. The weird thing is since I play Bass, that it what comes to me first. Music has shaped my life in so many ways, good and bad. It is one of the main ways my wife and I connect after all these years as well as a big part of my friendships as well. Great post !

I love listening to the “classics” station that plays music from when I was growing up. It really takes me back. Even though I wish I wasn’t the age to be considered a “classic” yet.
I grew up in a house where people sang, played the piano and bought records. From an early age, I knew all the Guy Lombardo songs as well as what was popular for my age group. I still sing with the radio and when I’m alone. My parents both played the piano, my dad by ear. Daddy might pick out the latest popular song and Mother often played from a hymnal; although she liked popular music. My best friend’s dad liked country music so I got a dose of it, too. I liked it all. We watched Hit Parade when I was young, Hee Haw, Andy Williams, any show that featured music. Now that Terry sings in the UALR choirs, I’ve been reintroduced to classical music, much of it sacred. I love it all. I couldn’t choose a song as a theme for my life, but there are many that take me right back to specific periods. Usually that’s good. There’s nothing like music to lift the spirit.
Music has always been a part of my life. It really is my soul singing. Always a song for whatever mood I’m in. Music is my life’s metronome. 🙂
