Dear April,
March was a whirlwind (literally and figuratively) and now here we are. April One. Winter is gone. Spring is here for real.
April reminds me of Easter, even though this year, Easter has already come and gone. Some of my favorite flowers bloom in April—tulips, daffodils, iris.
I love to walk through the aisles of Westwood Gardens and plan what I might plant when the last chance of frost has past. But it’s hard not to buy now.
My sister’s birthday is in April. And a week later, my cousin, Lesa’s. When we were kids that meant—bam-bam—two parties in a row.
April wakes me up. Sunshine feels lighter, the grass a brighter shade of fresh.
I think of spring planting. In the Delta, the farmers are struggling to get seed in the ground. So much rain this year. April showers bring May flowers? If that holds true, May blooms will be bountiful.
Really, if it can’t be fixed in April, it’s probably unfixable.

I love April, too, and agree that March felt too soon for Easter. Starburst Jelly Beans were a brilliant idea.
