Hey! Just because we are smack dab in winter doesn’t mean you can’t visit your local arboretum.ย Dallas Arboretumย is a wonderful place to visit any time of year, but in winter you can connect to nature, dream of spring, breathe in a little fresh air without the crowds typical of spring and summer.
Not to mention, the Dallas Arboretum is one of theย most scenic places in Dallas. While throngs of people drive in from all over the Metroplex (and state) to attend Dallas Blooms and Holiday at the Arboretum, my favorite time to attend is off-season. I prefer to visit when the garden is quiet, when the lake vistas are clear through bare branches.
Last weekend we took advantage of the amazing weather and spent the afternoon at the Dallas Arboretum. Trust me, even though the tulips aren’t yet up, there’s plenty to see.
The trees are architectural.
We spotted a Red-Tailed Hawk. (I only know the name because I heard someone else sayโฆ)
When you visit the Dallas Arboretum in winter, you can feel nature at rest, still very much alive but regenerating, waiting for her next big spring show only weeks away. Of course even in winter there are thousands of pansies blooming and beds mounded with giant lacy cabbages in every shade of purple from pale thistle to royal Tyrian.
Are you a fan of winter gardens?

I love the Dallas Arboretum. I don’t get to go as much as I would like since I’m in Houston but I do try to make it there at least twice a year.

We love the arboretum! Our brother & sister-in-law were married in the Women’s Garden. What a fantastic idea to highlight the beauty of your community.

This is so fun! I’ll have to check out more of your “Six Blocks from my House” posts. I’m in East Dallas too, and I’m always looking for more fun things to do and places to visit in our part of the city.

Thanks Tamara! I only started this in January, but I plan to do two 6 Blocks posts a month. So much to see in East Dallas!
