RIP friend…

February 21, 2016 By Talya Tate Boerner 14 Comments

tulip coming up!

Today I intended to write about my weekend and the spring-like weather and how my tulips and daffodils are peeking through the soil and how one incredible thing after another happened including I got a new car! And, all these things are true.

Maybe I’ll write about them tomorrow.

But today?

Today, I sit and stare into space trying to wrap my brain around the devastating news I received just hours ago. News that a friend has died.

I attended Baylor with Craig Farrelly. He was in my wedding.

One week ago, I saw his sweet wife at my book signing in Blytheville. We briefly chatted about their recent move from Osceola to Memphis. I didn’t get a chance to ask where’s Craig? but I assumed he was somewhere inside the crowded bookstore. Craig knew everyone, and he loved to talk and laugh and was not the type to stand in a long, slow, boring line.

But I never saw him. And that was that.

Today, everything I’ve been working toward and worrying about seems inconsequential as I am reminded that life is oh so fleeting and precious and unpredictable. We have such a limited time to make a difference, to help someone, to brighten someone’s day.

To do something that matters.

To be kind to one another.

To exist.

Today, I sit and stare into space and search for an answer knowing there isn’t one. And I’m feeling smothered with friend guilt, wondering if I could have done anything. Any small thing to make a difference.

After a week of warm weather, snow is in the forecast for Northwest Arkansas, and I think about my tender tulips and daffodils barely poking through the ground, and it all seems so incredibly tragic.

RIP friend.

Road Trip to Texas (food, friends, Mavs who forgot to show)

March 24, 2015 By Talya Tate Boerner 3 Comments

Hey. I’ve been out of town. The girls (Lucy and Annabelle) and I took a little road trip to Texas.  I saw my niece perform in her high school musical—always a fun thing!—ate at some of my favorite restaurants, saw the Dallas Mavericks lose to the Memphis Grizzlies, and hung out with a few friends. Now we are back in Fayetteville, which by the way, is in full spring bloom. Gorgeous!

Since I can’t think of anything clever to say, I’ll share a few pictures of the weekend.

I love seeing a random balloon floating on the water or sailing through the sky. And I saw one in Las Colinas.

John and I took the dogs for a walk along Campion Trail smack dab in Las Colinas near a branch of the Trinity River. Nice! Annabelle promptly picked up THREE ticks. Not so nice!

We had fantastic seats at the Dallas Mavericks game (my Mother’s Christmas gift to John). Even though the Mavs forgot to show (rude), we had a great time. Riding the Dart rail to ACC felt very urban and eliminated the whole parking thing. I had a huge, ice cold beer and a yummy hot dog, so all was not lost. Plus, the Grizzlies are my backup team anyway.

We spent time with good friends in our old Munger Place neighborhood. Lucy and Annabelle enjoyed seeing their buddy, Chester, who kept a lookout for the Scalini’s pizza man.

Yes, we drove by our house which I must say makes me cringe a little. The front room, which was painted a soothing (to us) paint color has been replaced with red raspberry that glows like a beacon down Worth Street. To each her own.

How was your weekend?

Triple Falls (aka Twin Falls) at Camp Orr

November 5, 2019 By Talya Tate Boerner 2 Comments

Last week, John and I did a little exploring in Jasper, Arkansas with the goal to visit Triple Falls. What a scenic, must see spot! No worries if you can’t visit for real. I’m bringing it to you.

Of course my pictures in no way capture the true majesty. Oh well. Until apparition (a la Harry Potter) becomes a thing, this will have to do.Continue Reading
